Digi-Pet is a device that helps pet owners to continuously monitor and communicate to their pets while transported as air cargo.  Digi-Pet  is an IOT ( Internet of Things) device that supports the communication between a pet under transit and the  pet owner through smartphone. The device is introduced by Unisys Corporation. 

It is estimated that around 33% of global population maintains dog  as pet  and another 23%  cat  as pet.   Dogs are favored in Argentina, Mexico and Brazil while cats are favorite in USA, France and Russia. Often, pet owners are emotionally attached to their pets  and undergo a heartbreaking experience when the pets are to be transported as air cargo. Occasionally such transits result in loss or injury to pets. It is very tough for many pets to survive the intense heat the tarmac. Further, when separated from owners, they suffer stress too. Such journeys make owners too anxious and tense.  Digio-Pet will enable airlines to improve the quality and comfortability of transporting services of pets.

In Digi-Pet, smart sensors are attached to the cage or carry case of pets.  The sensors transmit information like temperature, light, vibration, oxygen levels in the cage  to the smartphone with the pet owner. This monitoring helps pet owners and airline staff to take remedial measures as and when required, thereby ensuring a comfortable journey to the pet. Digi-Pet also provides live video streaming, photos and voice exchanges that make the pet owner to be in continuous touch with the pet throughout the journey. This is made possible through the mobile app in the smartphone.  Thus, the owner can calm the pet through the Dgi-Pet devise. 

As per the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Live Animals Regulations (LAR), the airlines should ensure that animals are transported safely and comfortably. They must provide comfortable environmental conditions to the animals till they are delivered at final destination.  According to the statistics with Unisys, 355 pets died, 201 injured and 54 lost during transit in US based airlines alone during transit between 2005 and 2017.
