IBM Verse: The game changer

Now, it is the turn of IBM, International Business Machine Corp to enter the competitive segment of e-mail services.  IBM, the well established hardware manufacturer cum services provider has launched its e-mail service, IBM Verse. The new e-mail application targets business segment of enterprise customers and small businesses. IBM Verse is an integrated version of social media, video chats, instant messages, schedules, analytics and file sharing.  Thus it becomes a one stop shop for all enterprise communication requirements. IBM assures the secrecy of the data and privacy of users.

IBM has a $ 100 Million investment for design innovation and IBM Verse is its first application that is launched.  For IBM, IBM Verse an attempt to have a major stake of the emerging markets of cloud computing and data analytics. The service is provided over cloud computing.   According to IBM, they intend to change the game rather than improvising e-mail service. It may turn out to be a competitor for the Outlook of Microsoft. 
The free initial mode includes limited mail box sizes and file sharing, while the paid version with all the features is expected to be available by January 2015. It is pertinent to note that Google Inc had launched its improved e-mail service “Inbox” in October. 


IBM verse, has a built in personal assistant capable of studying the behavior of a user and drafting a reply to the e-mail based on previous interactions. Thus it applies predictive analysis effectively. The application can also convert the e-mail contents into threads for blogs and social media. A simple dashboard provides details of most frequent contacts and schedules. The “faceted search” feature enables the users to retrieve specific information within the e-mails.

At present, Notes, the enterprise mail service of IBM is being used by more than 25,000 companies across the globe while IBM Connection, its social platform for business is being used by more than 50,000 users across the globe. 


The IBM founded in 1911 through the merger of three companies is an American Multinational technology and consulting corporation. It has 12 research laboratories and worldwide presence. The Head quarters is located in Armonk, New York, United states.
