Essential habits for success in life

How one’s belief lead to one’s destiny has been beautifully described by Mahatma Gandhi in a few sentences.

“Your beliefs become your thoughts, 
Your thoughts become your words, 
Your words become your actions, 
Your actions become your habits, 
Your habits become your values, 
Your values become your destiny.”

The above sentences prove beyond doubt that repeated words and actions lead to habits that forms the character of a person and finally his success or failure in life. Students go to school to get education for a better life. School is a training center that helps children to develop their academic skills, talents and personality. A student can develop to a good person only if certain habits are cultivated.

Habit No. 1: Follow a good schedule

The routines that we follow every day form the schedule. A good schedule stays with a person throughout his life and leads to good work habits and time management skills.

Habit No. 2:  Follow a healthy diet

Balanced and healthy diet enables a student to have a fit body and well developed brain. Healthy diet prevents many health issues during old age.

Habit No. 3: Habit of exercise

Quantity and quality of life depends on the physical fitness. Healthy diet supports the development of body and regular exercise fine tune the body.

Habit No. 4: Habit of learning

This habit is not for students alone. Never stop learning. One stops learning means one starts dying. Learning is a lifelong process and it should be developed in the early stages and continued throughout the life.

Habit No. 5: Habit of never giving up

Failure makes one gain experience. Failure is not an end, it just indicates that one needs to prepare better next time. But a failure should not prevent one from attempting again. Never, Never, Never Give up. Perseverance is the engine that propels life to success.

Habit No. 6 : Habit of gratitude

In the present era, bad things and news get more publicity that indirectly impacts children too.  Habits like envy pollute one’s mind. We never become aware of the blessings we have unless we focus on us. Think of our family, parents, siblings, good education and so on. There are many things we should be proud of. We should always be grateful for our blessing rather than being worried about the shortcomings. Practice the habit of gratitude from early stages in life to have a healthy mind.

Habit No. 7 : Habit of savings

As students, you might be earning pocket money, scholarships etc.  How do we spend the same? Whether we are spending all amount on junk foods and movies? Spending for entertainment is needed to enjoy life. But spending everything for enjoyment is a bad habit. We should always save a portion of earning for meeting expenses in future. Start the earning habits by opening an account for children and learn about the importance of compound interest .

Habit No. 8: Hard work and quality

Put in the best effort to achieve the highest quality in everything we do. Hard work coupled with aim of excellence brings the best in every person.

Habit No. 9: Respect Earth.

Our planet provides everything to support our life. But our irresponsible attitude is gradually spoiling our environment which in turn puts our own life in danger.   Always remember that we ought to hand over the planet to our next generation to ensure a peaceful life for them too. Be environment cautious in everything we do.

Habit No. 10: Respect all around you

You are only one among the millions living in the world. You have no superior right on our planet compared to others. All have equal rights on earth and the resources. Always remember that we ought to behave with compassion to all others. The habit of respecting others makes you acceptable to others and takes you to a successful life.
