India Fashion Week is a bi-annual event that provides a platform to fashion designers to highlight their flair and present the rich Indian heritage in textile industry. The event is organized by the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI), a non-profit organization. With around 400 members, FDCI acts as the apex body of fashion designers in India. Amazon.in being the main sponsor of the event, present episode is named Amazon India Fashion Week 2017 (AIFW).
Fashion industry is a growing industry and India is no exception. FDCI organizes the India Fashion week with the objective of providing an opportunity to Indian designers to showcase their designs in menswear, womenswear and accessory segments and thus provide them an opportunity to compete with established players on the global platform. This enables them to move along with the latest trends in fashion business which in turn gives an impetus to Indian textile and fashion industry. The enthusiasm of fashion designers is evident from the number of participants; the number of fashion designers who featured their work has increased from 33 in the year 2000 to 115 in 2017. FDCI is supported in the venture by Ministry of Commerce and Industry & Ministry of Textiles, Government of India.
In order to fulfill the commitment of government towards social and economic development, FDCI organizes other events in textile segments. Such events in the recent past include Weaves of Banaras, Huts to High Street and Threads of Banaras. FDCI plays various roles in developing marketing strategies, integrating designers from various parts of the country and guiding the fashion and textile industry through a growth path.
115 established and budding designers from various states of the country are participating in the Amazon India Fashion Week Autumn Winter 2017. The event is held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Lodhi Road, New Delhi between 15 and 18 March, 2017. The event provides lot of opportunities to young and established designers, models, stylists and choreographers.
