Water holes are depression that gets formed on the ground where water gets collected. It could be found mostly in the African grasslands of Savannah. It is such a busy place in the dry season that it provides the only water for long distance ahead. 

During the dry season in the grasslands, water hole is a reliable place to find water. Many animals and birds appear at the water hole. Animals like elephants visit the water hole frequently. They tend to drink a minimum of 200 litres of water per day.

Birds (especially storks and cranes) visit these waterholes quite often looking for fish, frogs and any other prey of interest. Some waterholes may get dry during summer. During such a situation, lung fish buries itself in a sticky bag of slime and hibernates until the rain comes back.
