Resin by definition is a solid or highly viscous substance. These viscous substances are organic compounds and can easily be converted into polymers. Resins are of two types; Natural (plant origin) and synthetic. Resins of plant origination include amber, balsam, dammar gum, kauri gum, mastic, myrrh and turpentine. Asphaltite, amino, casein, epoxy and utah are examples of synthetic resins. Plant resins are often used for manufacture of synthetic resins. Similarly, majority of synthetic resins are produced from petroleum, the ultimate origin of which also is trees.
